Karin Sander 1957-2057

30 MAY - 20 SEP
14:00
REYKJAVÍK ART MUSEUM

Karin Sander is a celebrated German artist who has cultivated a long-standing relationship with Iceland since her first exhibition in Reykjavík in 1993.

The Reykjavík Art Museum now presents a comprehensive exhibition of both her new and earlier works. Karin‘s work draws on existing situations, the country’s landscape, culture, and society. Her practice involves analogue and virtual technologies, the participation of visitors, and explores the interplay between material, time, and place.

The exhibition Karin Sander 1957-2057 examines notions of presence and site-specificity - geographical, social, bodily, and experimental discourses. Visitors are invited to be part of a 3D-portrait series, and white-primed canvases gather traces under varying conditions throughout the country. The exhibition featuring approximately 500 works becomes the starting point for a process of narratives and exploration.

Karin Sander (b. 1957) is known for her conceptual approach to material time and space, working with everyday objects, architecture, and digital media. Her work has been exhibited internationally at leading institutions, including the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, Kunstmuseum Winterthur, and SFMOMA. In 2018, she won a competition for a public artwork in Reykjavík.
