Reykjavik Arts Festival will take place 30 May-14 June 2026.

An art exhibition in the Old Herring Factory in Djúpavík. The factory is a raw concrete space. 
The exhibition is a group exhibition with artworks made in different media, ranging from textiles to video. 
The works generally do not deal with difficult issues. One work will hang at eye level. The work is a textile figure that looks like a cute monster. Another one is a video work with flashing images. Visitors can take part in one of the works by writing their feelings on a piece of paper on site. 
The exhibition takes place in four locations in the factory. In space 1 and 2 there is natural light and light from overhead projectors. Space 3 is a darkened space where the light comes from a video projection in the space. There is only natural light in space 4.
Few of the works have sounds. One has a repeated sound and there is sound in one video work. Both are played at a low volume.
The exhibition does not require any language skills. Promotional materials about the works are in Icelandic and English. The exhibition is suitable for both adults and children. Visitors can come and go as they please and travel through the space on their own.

Sensory description of The Factory

Sensory Accessibility Description

The exhibition takes place in the Old Herring Factory in Djúpavík, reached by a gravel road. The path leading to the exhibition space consists of grass and uneven gravel.
To enter the venue, visitors must go up 12 steps with a handrail. The floor inside is rough concrete. The exhibition is on two levels, connected by 25 steep steps with a handrail.

Part of the exhibition is displayed inside an old water tank. To enter and exit the tank, visitors crawl through a small opening.

There are no designated accessible parking spaces, but vehicles can be parked near the entrance.

General toilets are located at Hótel Djúpavík, and no accessible toilet is available. The walk from the exhibition space to the hotel takes about 5 minutes, along a slightly sloped gravel road. Visitors must climb 9 steps without a handrail to reach the toilets, which are located to the right through the dining room.
