Barbara Hannigan performs at Reykjavik Arts Festival 2022

Singing conductor Barbara Hannigan will perform in two concerts with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at the Reykjavík Art Festival 2022. Ticket sales have begun.

The magnificent soprano singer Barbara Hannigan will perform with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in two concerts at the opening weekend of the Reykjavík Art Festival, June 3 and 4, 2022. Ms. Hannigan will both conduct and sing with the orchestra.

This will be the first time this uniquely talented Canadian artist performs in Iceland.  Barbara Hannigan has received much acclaim worldwide in recent years, for her magnificent singing but also for her talent as a conductor. She has performed with many of the world's leading symphony orchestras and premiered over 85 new compositions, including works by György Ligeti and Hans Abrahamsen. She has also performed widely in the world's major opera houses, including the challenging title role in Lulu by Alban Berg.

Hannigan has received numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for the album Crazy Girl Crazy in 2018 and the prestigious Léonie Sonning Award in 2020. When she was awarded the Rolf Schock Prize in 2018 the jury said: "Hannigan is an extraordinary and innovative performer with a dynamic and intensive approach to the music she performs, often pure virtuoso stage interpretations, in which she often simultaneously assumes both the role of soloist and conductor."

The concert in Reykjavik will take place in Eldborg in Harpa Concert Hall on the 3rd and 4th of June 2021. The programme will be announced at a later date.
