Reykjavik Arts Festival will take place 30 May-14 June 2026.

Guests sit in a circle around the performers. Seating options include both chairs and floor seating, allowing visitors to choose what suits them best. During the performance, guests are invited to draw what they see, with materials provided on site. Drawing is entirely optional, guests can also just watch the performance. After the performance, guests are invited to leave their drawings behind, which may be incorporated into future performances.

At the beginning of the piece, the performers give a short introduction in both Icelandic and English. They will also briefly demonstrate how drawing can be used during the performance. Otherwise, the work is performed without words.

The music is quiet and relaxing, and the performance unfolds at a gentle pace. The space is bright.

The event is particularly well suited to children and families. Guests are free to come and go as they wish.

Sensory description for PROJECT HOFIE

A circus performance presented as part of the Family Festival at Elliðaárstöð. The performance may begin outdoors, with circus artists appearing among the audience and leading them in a kind of procession towards Turninn at Elliðaárstöð. The programme consists of several circus acts and installations, taking place mainly in and around Turninn.

Audience members may sit or stand, and some will be in close proximity to the performers. Most of the acts are aerial, performed using equipment such as hanging ropes and silks. Some acts will also be performed on a pole.

The performance is non-verbal, and no knowledge of any language is required.

Music will be played at a comfortable, moderate level and will not be excessively loud. The space will be bright and evenly lit.

The event is particularly well suited to children and families. Visitors are free to come and go as they wish.

Sensory description for Hringleikur

A musical walking event in Elliðaárdalur, with stops along the way. The event aims to encourage participants to connect with nature and experience it in new ways. The route mainly follows accessible walking paths. Where musical performances take place off the paths, care is taken to ensure that they can still be enjoyed from the main route.

The walk is at an easy pace, and participants are encouraged to engage their senses; listen, observe, notice scents, and, for example, touch trees, leaves, or pinecones. No individuals are addressed directly, only the group as a whole. At one point, participants are invited to join a musician in singing a summer song. All participation is optional, and attendees may choose to walk part of the route or the entire distance.

Sound levels are mild. The music is unamplified, and attention is also drawn to natural sounds such as the river and birdsong. There is no artificial lighting, only natural daylight.

The event is well suited to families and children.

Sensory Accessibility Description

Three events take place in and around Elliðaárstöð. Access to the area is generally good. A gentle slope leads down to the site, and all areas can be reached without using stairs. The paths are mostly paved, with some stone‑paved sections.

The playground includes a picnic area with designated wheelchair spaces.

There are three accessible toilets: one inside the Visitor Center, to the left after entering, behind the coat rack. One outdoor toilet. One in the café, located inside in the dining area

There is one designated space at the Power Station (Rafstöðin) and six spaces at Hitt húsið (three on each side of the building)
