Barbara Hannigan & Iceland Symphony Orchestra - concert program revealed!

Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan has drawn great acclaim the world over in recent years, both for her magnificent vocal performances and her prowess as a conductor. This is Hannigan’s first performance in Iceland, one that will surely rank among the major musical events to take place here.

The concert program will entail a selection of Early Twentieth Century works, ranging from Late-Romantic styles to the refreshing swing of Broadway musicals. A series of favourite songs from George Gershwin's musicals has gone on a triumphant journey around the world after Hannigan sang it on an album in 2018. Lulu Suite however shows the full range of Hannigan's talents as a singer and she has attracted worldwide attention for her portrayal of the protagonist in Alban Berg's opera. For the first half of the concert, Hannigan will be in the role of conductor, as she takes on the challenge of interpreting the fascinating existential question of pioneer Charles Ives as well as conducting Arnold Schoenberg's wonderful melody, Transfigured Night, which was one of his last works in an expressive, Late-Romantic style before embarking on the path of Modernism.
