A unique event aboard a Coast Guard vessel at Reykjavik Harbour.
This spring, the extraordinary Vatnadansmeyjafélagið Hrafnhildur (Watermeloncompany Hrafnhildur(Ravenbattle)) will put on a show on board the oldest and most prestigious vessel of the Icelandic Coast Guard, - Óðinn.
The vessel Óðinn will attain new identity and become a place where one´s imagination can flow into its most secret corners.
The vessel is a microcosmos. A world of its own. The audience will journey from the outside in, from above and downwards. By embarking, they enter a new world in time and space.
The performance will portray icons as well as ideas about The Woman through the millenia, her history/story and context examined in a new way. Broken hearts will be mended, ancient food will be prepared and proverbs embroidered.
The mind of the audience will bathe in jelly, honey, royal custard, mayonnaise. Endless spectacles of installations, music and dance will leave the audience in breathtaking multitheatrical oblivian. They will explore the vessel's most hidden cabins and darkest corners. What does the woman look like when she has been peeled and then placed in a world she has had no influence in creating?
The journey will conclude in the heart of the vessel, on the engine deck where the beat is pure and each throb one sends a message of what is to become. The unexpected is due.
The Watermelloncompany Hrafnhildur (Vatnadansmeyjafélagið Hrafnhildur) was founded in 1991 by actresses Guðlaug Elísabet Ólafsdóttir, Halla Margrét Jóhannesdóttir, Katrín Þorkelsdóttir, Margrét Vilhjálmsdóttir and Sigrún Sól Ólafsdóttir.
Artistic assistants to the group´s performances are: Halla Gunnarsdóttir - sculpturist, Þórunn Elísabet Sveinsdóttir - costume designer and Davíð Þór Jónsson - musician.
