The opening ceremony of the Reykjavik Arts Festival 2011 was held in the foyer of Harpa, the new concert and conference hall by the harbor in Reykjavik. The Festival was opened by Katrin Jakobsdottir, the Minister of Education, Science and Culture. Among artists performing were Ólöf Arnalds and Skúli Sverrisson, Högni Egilsson and the mail choir Fóstbræður and Byzantine Silhouette played traditional Macedonian and Bulgarian melodies.
