Ambra

The work Ambra that was premiered at Reykjavík Arts Festival 2008 received recently the Norwegian Critics Price.

Ina Christel Johannessen created Ambra for the Iceland Dance Company and Carte Blanche in co-operation with Reykjavík Arts Festival and Bergen International Festival.
Two of Scandinavia´s most prominent dance companies, Iceland Dance Company and Carte Blanche, Bergen  joined forces to stage this grand production which was premiered in May at the Reykjavik Arts Festival , it was the most attended performance at the Bergen International Festival in June and was also staged in September at Bærun Kulturhus in Oslo.
Ina Christel Johannessen is considered one of Europe’;;;s most exciting choreographers today. Original music for the piece was composed by two Icelandic female musicians, Kira Kira and Hildur I. Gudnadottir, along with their German counterpart Dirk Desselhaus. The protagonists of Ambra are 20 outstanding dancers and a colossal blue whale skeleton.

The following is taken from web page of the Norwegian Critics Price:

"What makes this performance so special is her handling of the sheer volume. The abstract yet expressive movement language makes this become a symphonic piece which will make its place in dance history. With 20 dancers, Ina Christel Johannessen has been given the opportunity to create choreography in the large format. The re-encounter only a few days ago in Bærum, strengthened the impression that Ambra is a monumental work in terms of its choreography, music and visually aspects."
